Europol union defends officers in traffic stop incident involving alleged refusal to identify

The Europol union has reacted to a traffic incident involving a driver who allegedly refused to identify herself and comply with police directives. The union stated that the situation escalated, forcing officers to use irritant spray and ultimately handcuff the individual in accordance with intervention procedures.

Europol officials asserted that responsibility for such escalations cannot be placed on police officers when an individual refuses to follow legal orders and resists. They highlighted that children were present nearby and should not be exposed to conflict. "Children should not be turned into a 'shield' nor exposed to a conflict situation," the union stated. "If a person enters into conflict with police and the situation could become dangerous, the most responsible choice is to remove children from the intervention area, not bring them closer to it."

The union further emphasized that police must apply the law impartially, irrespective of gender or personal status. "Police do not enforce the law based on gender, status, or personal preferences, and when a person breaks the law, refuses the legal orders of the police officer, and resists, the intervention is carried out according to the law and with respect for procedures, regardless of whether we are talking about a woman or a man," Europol said.

Europol congratulated the officers involved, maintaining they acted legally and professionally. The union stressed that respect should be mutual, but the authority of the law is non-negotiable, even if the individual chooses to film the encounter for self-victimization.
