Father leaves 11-year-old daughter home alone in Cyprus to attend football match in Albania

A father residing in Cyprus faces investigation for child neglect after allegedly traveling to Albania for a football match, leaving his 11-year-old daughter unattended at home for approximately two days. Police were alerted on Thursday evening by neighbors who observed the young girl alone in the apartment.

Upon arrival, officers found the child in the residence, and she confirmed that her father had left on Wednesday morning. Cypriot media reported that the man traveled to Albania to watch a match between Dinamo Tirana and FC Pafos. The match, part of the Conference League playoffs, ended in a 1-1 draw.

Following the discovery of the child alone, police contacted social services, who have taken custody of the girl and begun proceedings to ensure her protection. Cypriot authorities have launched an investigation into suspected child abandonment and endangerment.

The father is expected to be arrested upon his return to Cyprus and will be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
