German tennis player Eva Lys, 24, has openly discussed the financial anxieties she faced throughout her career, even after turning professional. It was only after securing a consistent place within the world's Top 100 that she felt financially stable enough to live comfortably from her sport.

Supported by her father, who also coaches her, Lys has faced physical challenges this season, including a persistent knee injury and a recent mid-match retirement in Toronto. In these difficult periods, her activity on social media has become a crucial financial buffer. "What many people don't understand: I can actually earn some money with social media too," she said. "It makes me a bit more financially secure and helps me deal with injuries. Of course, I do it for fun, but especially since last year it has somehow also developed into my brand." Lys, who has around 365,000 followers on Instagram, might return to competition at the Cincinnati tournament starting August 13, following her latest injury break.
