Evan, Former ENHYPEN Member, Reveals He Was Diagnosed With Lymphoma as a Child

K-pop singer Evan has revealed that he was diagnosed with malignant lymphoma while he was in fourth grade, a chapter of his childhood he had kept private for years.

I think it’s time to talk about this. I haven’t mentioned it since I became a singer, but I was diagnosed with malignant lymphoma in fourth grade.

In an interview with Weverse Magazine, Evan said his illness began with symptoms he thought resembled a cold. “I couldn’t stop coughing, and I thought it was a cold and didn’t pay much attention; then, when I was playing soccer, I took four or five steps and suddenly couldn’t breathe. Later, at the hospital, I found out it was cancer.”

The treatment proved difficult. Evan said seeing other children die strengthened his determination to survive and return home. Music also gave him a way to cope. He took part in talent shows at the hospital, played guitar and sometimes hosted the events. He said he had dreamed of becoming a singer since he was six.

Evan eventually overcame the disease, but returning to normal life brought new difficulties. He had less energy after treatment, and classmates mocked him while his hair grew back after chemotherapy. “I was able to continue with my life, but reintegrating with my friends wasn’t easy,” he said.

I watched my friends die and kept thinking: ‘I want to live so much, I want to go home.’

He is now promoting his first solo album, “Death of Me,” scheduled for release on September 7.
