In a statement, Venizelos also characterized Varvitsiotis as an excellent conversationalist, a gifted storyteller, a good friend, and a gentleman with a passion for Greece's cultural heritage. He recalled their collaboration as general rapporteurs during the 1995-2001 constitutional revision process, where Varvitsiotis represented the minority and Venizelos the majority. Venizelos emphasized Varvitsiotis's contribution to establishing the broad constitutional consensus achieved in 2001.
