Everton Show Resilience to Hold Manchester United to a Draw

Everton twice fell behind against Manchester United, but a spectacular stoppage-time strike from Ainsley Maitland-Niles rescued a 2-2 draw and kept the home side unbeaten after three matches.

Maitland-Niles, an English defender signed by Everton late in the transfer window, struck in the 96th minute at Hill Dickinson Stadium. His shot flew past goalkeeper Senne Lammens and sparked a celebration among the home crowd.

Manchester United had taken the lead through Bryan Mbeumo, who ran in from the wing and shot from the edge of the area after Everton’s defense failed to close him down. Tyrique George equalized with a powerful effort into the top corner in the 83rd minute, but Benjamin Sesko restored United’s lead with an unstoppable header five minutes later.

United looked dangerous in the first half but became less incisive after the break. Marcus Rashford created several openings down the left, including a cross that Matheus Cunha could not convert. Captain Bruno Fernandes also struck Jordan Pickford’s crossbar in the eighth minute.

The draw left Everton unbeaten after three rounds and Manchester United with a disappointing result after coming close to victory. The Red Devils next face Manchester City, the league leader after three matches, on Sunday.
