Every Spider-Man Movie Villain Ranked from Worst to Best

Spider-Man’s cinematic villains range from classic comic-book enemies to heavily reworked characters, and a new ranking places 19 of them from worst to best. The list comes as “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” adds another chapter to the franchise featuring Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

At the bottom, Dr. Ashley Kafka from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is criticized as a major departure from the comics. Marton Csokas plays Kafka as a male German scientist who experiments on Electro, rather than the female psychiatrist who becomes Spider-Man’s ally in the source material.

Gustav Fiers, played by Michael Massee in “The Amazing Spider-Man” films, is ranked next. The mysterious Man in the Shadows inspired fan theories, but his eventual reveal in the sequel proved less important than some viewers expected. Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti, also ranks low because of the character’s brief appearance, bulky suit and exaggerated Russian accent.

The Tinkerer and Shocker from “Spider-Man: Homecoming” receive slightly higher positions. The Tinkerer’s use of alien technology from the Battle of New York offers an effective adaptation, but his limited screen time restricts the character. Shocker gets a memorable encounter with Spider-Man, though the film leaves his potential as a recurring low-level adversary largely unexplored.

Venom, introduced in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 3,” ranks 14th. Topher Grace plays Eddie Brock, whose transformation gives Peter Parker another enemy. The film’s origin story remains relatively faithful to the comics, but its revenge-driven storyline does not take the character higher in the ranking.
