Everything Coming to Max in September 2026

Max's September lineup brings together horror, drama, documentaries and crime stories, with several high-profile premieres scheduled across the month. The platform's headline releases include Backrooms, the A24 adaptation of an internet horror phenomenon, Youth, a new comedy drama starring Sharon Horgan, and JAŸ-Z In 8, a documentary series about Jay-Z's career.

The film schedule begins with Fuze on Sept. 4. The British action thriller stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James and starts with the discovery of a World War II bomb in London. Sean Baker's Anora follows on Sept. 5. The Cannes Palme d'Or winner centers on a young Brooklyn sex worker who impulsively marries the son of a Russian millionaire, triggering conflict with his family.

Backrooms arrives on Sept. 25. Directed by Kane Parsons, the A24 film follows a man trapped in a maze of liminal spaces drawn from the popular online horror phenomenon.

Youth premieres on Sept. 20 with Sharon Horgan playing a 50-year-old divorced woman seeking love and sex while caring for her sick parents and dealing with her adult son. The eight-episode HBO production will launch with two episodes before moving to weekly releases. That same week, 4 Blocks Zero will take viewers to 1990s Berlin in a prequel about the origins of the Hamady family. Paolo, a French political thriller about power, ambition and obsession, also debuts on Sept. 25.

The documentary slate includes JAŸ-Z In 8 on Sept. 18. The eight-part HBO production marks 30 years since Jay-Z's debut album, Reasonable Doubt, and features conversations with Rick Rubin about the artist's career and work. A Killer Story arrives Sept. 10, followed by The Good Spirit: Behind the Doors of the Opus Dei on Sept. 25.
