What’s coming to streaming: Mexican series Mal de Amores leads the week’s premieres

The week’s streaming lineup is led by Mal de Amores, a Mexican period drama arriving on Netflix on Wednesday. Set during the Mexican Revolution, the seven-episode series follows Emilia Sauri, a woman who dreams of becoming a doctor while challenging the expectations of her time.

The story combines romance, desire and political conflict as Emilia seeks to build an independent life and choose her own destiny. The series adapts Ángeles Mastretta’s novel and was directed by her daughter, Catalina Aguilar Mastretta. Renata Vaca leads a cast that includes Iván Amozurrutia, Humberto Zurita and Juan Pablo Medina.

Disney+ will release the second season of Chad Powers on Thursday. The series follows college football player Russ Holliday, whose career collapsed after a mistake. Eight years later, he adopts the identity of Chad Powers and joins the Georgia Bagres in an effort to return to the field.

Netflix will also add Punto de inflexión: Generación 11S, a documentary directed by Brian Knappenberger. Marking 25 years since the Sept. 11 attacks, it examines how the event affected a generation through firsthand testimony and its effects on society, politics and people who grew up afterward.

Among the film releases is Fito Páez: El mundo cabe en una canción, which follows the Argentine musician through recordings, rehearsals, tours and concerts in Latin America, Europe and the United States. The documentary also looks at his life, relationships, children, setbacks and career achievements. It arrives on Netflix on Thursday, while Moscas is scheduled for Mubi on Friday.
