Ex-driver sentenced to death for murder of elderly Abuja couple

A former driver has been sentenced to death by hanging for the brutal murder of an elderly couple in their Abuja residence. Jonathan Marcus was convicted by the FCT High Court for killing 80-year-old Mr. Adebola Ezekiel and his wife, Mrs. Abiodun Ezekiel.

The couple was attacked on April 1, 2024, at their home in the Apo Legislative Quarters. Following the incident, Marcus fled to Obajana, Kogi State, but was apprehended by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command. He was subsequently returned to Abuja for investigation.

During interrogation, Marcus confessed to entering the couple's residence around 11 p.m. on the night of the murders. Investigations revealed that he had previously worked as their driver but was dismissed due to repeated disagreements. The police successfully prosecuted the case, presenting evidence that led Justice M. S. Idris to find Marcus guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and protecting lives and property within the territory, vowing to bring all perpetrators of crime to account.
