Ex-Mexican President's Son Denied U.S. Visa, Cites Political Motives

Andres Manuel Lopez Beltran, son of former Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, announced that U.S. authorities have revoked his entry visa. He accused officials from the Trump administration of making a politically motivated decision.

Beltran made these claims in a letter addressed to former President Donald Trump. He asserts that he was not presented with any evidence linking him to illegal activities. The 39-year-old politician, known as 'Andy,' recently resigned from the leadership of the ruling Morena party, according to Reuters. He described the visa withdrawal as a "crude and perverse act" and part of a campaign against foreign political leaders.

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico has not yet commented on the accusations. Lopez Beltran is preparing to run in the 2027 parliamentary elections and expressed hope for a response from the U.S. president. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also commented, suggesting that visa revocations for individuals deemed "politically exposed" by Washington have a political character.

Separately, Mexico reported that over 271,000 Mexican citizens have been repatriated from the United States since Donald Trump returned to the White House on January 20, 2025. The National Institute for Migration (INM) stated that these repatriated migrants are treated with respect and receive support. Mexico also noted a significant reduction in migration flows toward the U.S. since October 2024, attributed to border control measures by both countries. The Trump administration implemented strict measures against illegal immigration, including asylum restrictions and increased border enforcement.
