Ex-police officer arrested for wife's murder amid divorce proceedings

A former police officer has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife amid a divorce lawsuit. The 50-something suspect, identified only as Mr. K, was apprehended in Guri City, Gyeonggi Province, early Tuesday morning. His wife, also in her 50s, was found stabbed to death in their home in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo City, Jeju, on Monday evening.

Police had been searching for Mr. K after he was reported missing on March 23rd. He had left a note expressing suicidal thoughts at his home in Seoul, prompting a family member to report him missing two days later. However, investigators believe Mr. K traveled to Jeju on March 22nd, the day before his wife's death, and committed the crime.

The investigation into the wife's death began after police visited her home on Tuesday morning but received no response. Upon a second visit that evening, officers noticed a broken window and subsequently discovered the deceased inside. Mr. K, who had served as a police officer in Jeju for a year before retiring in 2024, is reportedly cooperating with authorities. He is expected to be transported to Jeju later today, where further investigation into his motives will take place.
