Ex-Prosecutor General surprised by President Жапаров's support

Former Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan, Aida Salyanova, revealed her surprise at the support she received from President Sadyr Жапаров. This support came despite past events where Жапаров himself faced criminal charges during her time as Prosecutor General.

Salyanova recalled that Жапаров was involved in a criminal case while she held the top prosecutor position. Because of this, she anticipated he would oppose her future appointments to any government roles. "I was surprised that he did not hold onto old grievances and supported me. Many cannot believe this. I myself could not believe it for a long time because I never backed down from my position," she stated.

She interpreted Жапаров's gesture as a sign of his ability to place state interests above past political disputes. Salyanova likened this decision to a "strong chess move," showcasing a refined political culture and state-level thinking. She also believes the president's actions indicate a desire to transform the country by establishing new priorities and values centered on mutual understanding and national unity for the future.

"I perceive this trust as a great responsibility to the country and the new generation," Salyanova added. She was elected president of the Chess Federation of Kyrgyzstan in May 2026, having previously served as Prosecutor General, a member of parliament, and Minister of Justice.
