Ex-prosecutor "La Maldad" accused of laundering drug money for Sebastián Marset in Paraguay

A former public prosecutor, José Fernando Darío Estigarribia Cristaldo, known as "La Maldad," faces accusations of laundering drug trafficking proceeds for Sebastián Marset. The Paraguayan Prosecutor's Office has charged Estigarribia with criminal association and money laundering, alleging he used his insider knowledge to facilitate illicit financial activities.

According to the prosecution, Estigarribia, who served within the Ministry Public between 2007 and 2017, including in specialized anti-narcotics and cybercrime units, gained access to sensitive information. This access allegedly allowed him to connect with Marset, a figure now facing charges in the United States, and assist in "whitening" illegal funds through the purchase of companies and assets.

Financial records presented by the prosecution indicate significant monetary movements in Estigarribia's accounts during a period of Marset's heightened activity. The case, known as "A Ultranza," aims to dismantle a large-scale drug trafficking and money laundering network. The specialized judge for organized crime will now decide whether to proceed to a public trial against Estigarribia.
