Exclusive - the Six Officials Dismissed in Museveni's Anti-Corruption Purge Revealed

President Yoweri Museveni has dismissed six senior officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) as part of an anti-corruption purge. The move targets alleged irregularities in major infrastructure projects, including inflated costs and procurement malpractices. Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama confirmed the dismissals to Parliament's Committee on Physical Infrastructure, stating the President had ordered the removal of engineers and other officials implicated in these issues.

Nile Post exclusively identified the dismissed officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport as Engineers Ronald Olaki, Steven Kitonsa, and Rogers Kisambira. Olaki has been associated with the stalled Masaka-Kyotera-Mutukula road project, while Kisambira served as project manager for roads crucial to Uganda's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations preparations. Engineer Stephen K. Kitonsa recently took over as Director of Engineering.

The three officials from the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority facing dismissal are Engineer Ronald Twesigye, head of the Contracts Committee; Engineer Ayub Sooma, Director of Airports and Aviation Security; and Helen Wanene, Head of Legal Affairs. Sources indicate these UCAA officials are under investigation for governance and procurement irregularities within the authority.

Minister Byamukama informed the parliamentary committee that disciplinary actions within the ministry had already commenced, including the interdiction of Permanent Secretary Waswa Bageya. Several engineers have also provided statements to the Inspector General of Government. The allegations span multiple projects, including the Busega-Mpigi, Mubende-Fort Portal, and Masaka-Mutukula road projects.

These latest dismissals follow a previous directive in June 2026, where President Museveni ordered the suspension of engineers Edwin Raymond Kiyaga, Dickens Ahimbishe, and Patrick Mulema pending investigations into alleged financial irregularities on a Shs600 billion project. The ministry has pledged full cooperation with investigative agencies to implement the President's directive.
