Exhibition to Mark Fidel Castro's Centenary in Cienfuegos

Cienfuegos province is preparing to host a photographic exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of Fidel Castro's birth. The exhibition, titled "Fidel es Fidel," is set to open on August 13 at the Provincial Party Committee in Cienfuegos.

Yusimy Yulls Quintana, an official from the Provincial Party Committee's Ideological Department, announced that the exhibit will showcase 26 historical photographs. These images capture indelible moments from Fidel Castro's visits to the Cienfuegos territory, reflecting his enduring link to the province.

The photographs are the work of photojournalist Efraín Cedeño Cedeño, who documented most of Castro's visits to Cienfuegos for the provincial newspaper "5 de Septiembre." Cedeño, who worked at the newspaper from its founding in 1989 until his retirement in 2025, described the opportunity to photograph Castro as the "glory period" of his career.

Cedeño's images depict Castro's involvement in various aspects of Cienfuegos' development, including visits to industrial projects, educational institutions, healthcare centers, and during meteorological events. He expressed the honor of capturing these moments, which he believes will preserve for future generations Castro's efforts to drive economic and social progress in the province.
