F1 | Kimi Antonelli Dominates Belgian GP, Extends Championship Lead

Kimi Antonelli has significantly extended his lead in the Formula 1 world championship standings by winning the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The young Italian driver dominated the weekend, securing his sixth victory of the season ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Antonelli now holds a 45-point advantage over Lewis Hamilton, who finished fourth in Belgium. Hamilton has moved ahead of Antonelli's Mercedes teammate, George Russell, in the overall standings. Russell currently sits third, 50 points behind Antonelli, after his race ended prematurely.

Reflecting on his performance, Antonelli expressed his disbelief and satisfaction, contrasting his current success with a difficult mental state at the same track the previous year. The race saw a dramatic first lap incident where Russell collided with Hamilton, forcing Russell out of the competition. This retirement is a major blow to Russell's title aspirations, as he scored zero points while Antonelli gained a full 25. Hamilton received a five-second penalty for the incident but managed to minimize the damage, finishing fourth.

Despite Mercedes holding the lead in the championship, Ferrari showed signs of improvement. Leclerc, who briefly led the race after a well-timed pit stop under a virtual safety car, ultimately finished second. He acknowledged that the team had expected to be further behind on a track that doesn't typically suit their car's strengths, expressing satisfaction with their performance relative to expectations.
