Fabio Soli tells Delo: We have a generational gem who will only get better

Slovenia’s volleyball team is heading to Italy with high ambitions, but Tonček Štern’s injury has created a major uncertainty before the European Championship.

Coach Fabio Soli says the team must manage its strength across a long tournament and make the serve a key part of its approach. Slovenia is defending the bronze medal it won at the previous European Championship, but Soli stressed that this is not the same team. Many players are new, and a new generation is emerging.

Soli told Delo that the players deserve to dream beyond their previous achievement. Their immediate task, he said, is to show their best volleyball in every match and improve step by step. The team wants to reach the latter stages, rank among Europe’s best national sides and compete for a medal.

The coach also spoke warmly about Rok Možič, whom he knows from Verona. Soli described him as a player with a big heart for his teammates and the team, as well as remarkable energy. Možič wants to lead while helping those around him, Soli said.

Soli considers Možič one of the greatest talents of his generation, not only in Europe but in the world. He believes the young player still has substantial room to develop, both as an athlete and as a person. When Možič receives responsibility, Soli said, he plays increasingly well and is becoming one of the most highly regarded young players in world volleyball.
