Factum poll: Disapproval of Bergara’s Montevideo administration reaches 44%, approval stands at 29%

Mario Bergara’s administration in Montevideo has a negative approval balance, according to a new Factum poll. Forty-four percent of respondents said they disapproved of his performance, while 29% approved and 26% offered a neutral response, leaving a balance of minus 15 points.

Factum director Eduardo Bottinelli told VTV Noticias that disapproval had not exceeded approval when neutral responses were excluded. He also noted that disapproval remained below 50%. Bottinelli said Montevideo’s electorate was somewhat more favorable to the governing Frente Amplio than the electorate nationwide.

The political divide was pronounced. Among respondents who voted for the Frente Amplio in the October 2024 election, 53% approved of Bergara’s administration, 16% disapproved and 30% neither approved nor disapproved. Among voters for parties that make up the Republican Coalition, 76% disapproved, 19% gave a neutral response and 5% approved. “The behavior among voters for the coalition’s parties is to be expected,” Bottinelli said.

The latest figures showed some improvement from Factum’s second survey period of the year. Approval stood at 23% then, disapproval at 46% and neutral responses at 30%. The new poll was conducted from Aug. 1 to Aug. 16 among 460 Montevideo residents aged 18 and over, interviewed by mobile phone. The stated maximum margin of error was plus or minus 2.3% at one-sigma confidence and plus or minus 4.6% at two-sigma confidence.
