Faisal bin Farhan Stresses Diplomacy to Ease Regional Tensions

Saudi Arabia remains committed to de-escalating regional tensions and averting further conflict through sustained diplomatic efforts, according to Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. Speaking at the third Saudi-Japanese Strategic Dialogue in Riyadh, he stressed that "Diplomacy, dialogue and peaceful means remain our priorities."

Prince Faisal met with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, highlighting the strong, trust-based relationship between their nations. A key shared priority identified was maritime security, with both ministers underscoring the critical need to maintain freedom of navigation in international waterways. They specifically noted the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab straits open and secure.

The Saudi minister also characterized Japan as a vital economic partner, expressing Riyadh's desire to enhance collaboration in areas such as investment, energy, resources, supply chains, defense, and technology. He assured Japan of Saudi Arabia's continued reliability as an energy partner, while commending Tokyo's efforts to bolster economic resilience and stabilize global energy markets.

Japanese officials noted Saudi Arabia's significant role in mediating talks between the United States and Iran, acknowledging the Kingdom's growing international influence. Japan aims to deepen its strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia, particularly in ensuring stable energy supplies, a crucial concern given that over 95% of Japan's crude oil imports transit the Strait of Hormuz. Cooperation is expected to broaden beyond oil, aligning with the Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 framework.
