Fake Agency Scandal: Group dismisses Reps probe, demands Gbajabiamila’s suspension

A Nigerian civil society group, the Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED), is demanding the immediate suspension of Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President. The group alleges his links to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) are problematic.

CHRICED has also dismissed the House of Representatives' ongoing investigation into the PFIPC, calling it a mere distraction unlikely to yield any meaningful results. Ibrahim Zikirullahi, CHRICED's Executive Director, stated that a credible investigation cannot proceed while Gbajabiamila remains in office, citing past legislative probes involving prominent figures that failed to ensure accountability.

The controversy stems from allegations that the PFIPC obtained fraudulent recognition and government patronage. The council's self-proclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, reportedly implicated Gbajabiamila in the organization's activities and alleged fund transfers to the chief of staff. Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of the House, has vehemently denied these claims, labeling them false and an attempt to damage his reputation. He has initiated a N15 billion defamation lawsuit against Adeyemi over the accusations.
