2027: INEC records 10.18m new voters as CVR ends

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a significant increase in registered voters, with over 10.18 million Nigerians successfully completing the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the end of its third phase. The exercise, which concluded on Sunday, July 26, 2026, added millions of potential voters to the national register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The commission's data indicates that physical registration centers remained the preferred method for most Nigerians, accounting for nearly 70 percent of all completed registrations. Out of the total 10,188,755 cumulative registrations across three phases, 2,697,863 voters registered at physical centers, while 1,170,134 completed their registration online.

Kano State led the registration drive with 330,906 completed registrations, followed by Lagos State with 181,254 and Delta State with 166,895. Conversely, Ekiti State recorded the lowest number with 2,276, while Ondo State registered 23,824. Osun State had no registrations during this period due to the suspension of the CVR exercise for the upcoming governorship election, as mandated by electoral law.

INEC will now undertake a crucial de-duplication process to eliminate multiple registrations from the newly added figures. This step is vital to ensure the integrity of the National Register of Voters before the next general elections, where over 93 million voters are currently registered.
