Fake Profiles: New Allegations Surface in Vienna Market Authority Scandal

A report in "Der Falter" suggests Hengl is behind fake social media profiles used to generate positive buzz about Viennese markets and to investigate businesses, such as nail salons, for operating without licenses. An employee reportedly stated that a list of login details for these fake identities, including one named "Edi Talinger" who praised the Schlingermarkt and the "Long Night of Viennese Markets," was found in Hengl's office.

Green party officials have called for greater transparency, demanding to know who knew what and when regarding the alleged misconduct. They have submitted written questions to Mayor Michael Ludwig, suggesting that both city councilor Ulli Sima and Ludwig were aware of the issues for some time. The Greens are pushing for clarity on personnel and disciplinary matters.

The opposition Freedom Party (FPÖ) has announced plans for a special summer session of the city council to discuss the allegations. While the primary focus of this session will be on alleged cronyism involving Vienna Chamber of Commerce president Walter Ruck, the Market Authority scandal is also expected to be a major topic. The FPÖ intends to submit an urgent inquiry to Mayor Ludwig during the first regular session in September.
