Families Hold High Hopes for Two Missing Firefighters in Nepal

Families of two Malaysian firefighters remain hopeful for the safe return of their loved ones, who are currently unaccounted for following flash floods in Rasuwa, Nepal. The two officers are part of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad, Director-General of JBPM, stated that the department is maintaining close communication with the families of the missing personnel. "We are still holding high hopes. So far, there is no news from them," he said when contacted.

Media reports indicated that the two JBPM officers were among a group of 10 Malaysians traveling to Everest Base Camp. The group had departed for Nepal on Monday evening. One of the missing officers serves as the Deputy Director of Planning and Research at JBPM Headquarters, while the other is a training officer at the Central Region Fire and Rescue Academy.

The incident highlights the risks faced by individuals undertaking challenging expeditions, even when accompanied by experienced teams. The focus remains on gathering information about their whereabouts and ensuring all possible search and rescue efforts are coordinated.
