Family Agriculture Fair on Asunción’s waterfront offers fresh produce, gourmet foods and flowers

Asunción’s Costanera has turned into a showcase for young Paraguayan farmers, with fresh produce, processed foods, music and a flower-filled walkway on offer at the Family Agriculture Fair.

The ExpoFeria de la Agricultura Familiar Joven, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, began on Thursday, September 3, with an afternoon and evening session from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Young entrepreneurs from different parts of the country presented their products in a festive, interactive setting.

The fair centers on innovation, agroindustry and generational renewal in rural production. Agriculture Minister Carlos Giménez described it as an event designed for young people, with the producers themselves taking the lead in selling family-farm products with added value.

A gourmet market offered items processed at their origin, including gluten-free flavored yerba mate from Itapúa, jams, pickles, honey and instant cocido quemado. Families could also visit a food court serving traditional dishes, operated by the parents of the participating vendors, and enjoy artistic activities.

The fair brought together young producers from 12 departments. Its flower tunnel displayed and sold orchids and cut flowers as spring approached. Activities resumed at 5 a.m. on Friday, September 4, continuing until supplies ran out, reflecting the habit of regular buyers who arrive early for fresh food.
