At just 18, McDonald's Fijian Drua Women lock Carletta Yee is navigating the complexities of professional rugby, with family proving to be her bedrock. Being away from her parents throughout the Super W season has presented significant hurdles for the youngest of five siblings.

My parents back home… they’ve always been there for me from day one.

Yee openly shared that her family remains her most substantial source of motivation. She emphasized the consistent backing she has received from her parents since the beginning of her rugby career, acknowledging their role in maintaining her focus during demanding periods of the season.

My mum and dad back home have always been my number one motivation.

The emotional toll of being away from home, particularly after rigorous training sessions, is palpable. Yee expressed her longing for her parents and the familiar comforts of home, such as her mother's cooking, which she misses dearly while chasing her rugby dreams.

Being away from mum and dad isn’t easy… I miss them especially on the hard days after training.

Despite the challenges, Yee is gaining invaluable experience with the Drua Women, solidifying her status as one of Fiji's emerging rugby talents. The team is set to commence their season on the 6th of next month against the Waratahs.
