Family Files Complaint Against Police Over Murder Victim's Death

The family of Nikita Gemistos, a 21-year-old man fatally shot on his birthday, has lodged a formal complaint against police officers at the Malevizi Police Department. They are demanding an investigation into alleged negligence that they believe preceded and contributed to his murder.

Gemistos was killed on May 5th by 54-year-old Kostas Parasiris, who wrongly blamed Gemistos for the death of his own son. In 2023, Gemistos, then 18, was driving a car that crashed into a pillar, resulting in the death of Parasiris's 17-year-old son, who was a passenger. Parasiris subsequently held Gemistos responsible.

On the day of the murder, Parasiris, with his wife as a passenger, ambushed Gemistos. He rammed Gemistos's vehicle, immobilizing it, then pursued him and shot him six times in the back. As Gemistos lay bleeding on the ground, Parasiris kicked him before driving off to take his wife home and then surrendering to the Malevizi police. Upon arrival, Parasiris told officers, "I did what I had to do."

Despite previous complaints filed against Parasiris and existing restraining orders, he had previously attempted to kill Gemistos. The Gemistos family's complaint details a series of incidents before the murder, asserting that omissions by the Malevizi police facilitated the tragic outcome. The victim's sister stated, "We went to the Malevizi Police Department often and asked for help, we cried out for help. I believe this could have been prevented somehow. But, in the end, it wasn't."

The family insists that accountability must be established and that any police oversights that could have averted Gemistos's murder should be thoroughly examined. They are determined that the case will not go unanswered.
