Family Injured in Barishal Explosion; Land Dispute Suspected Motive

An explosion in Bangladesh's Barishal district has left three members of a family injured, prompting police to file a case against unknown perpetrators. The incident, which occurred in Bakerganj upazila, is being treated as an attempted murder and explosives case. The family alleges that a long-standing land dispute involving several local individuals is the motive behind the attack.

Jamal Hawlader filed the case on behalf of his family. His mother, Hanufa Begum, sister Iti Hawlader, and nephew Fahim are currently receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. His mother and nephew are reported to be in critical condition following the blast.

A Bomb Disposal Unit inspected the scene, with preliminary findings suggesting the device was a locally manufactured "victim-operated explosive" that detonated upon contact. Investigators recovered wire and other materials, but no shrapnel. Forensic tests are underway to determine the exact type of explosive used. Police are considering multiple motives, including the land dispute, potential connections to recent bomb recoveries in Dhaka, and the possible involvement of an organized group.
