Family of brothers killed in Pasamayito crash says gas company has taken no responsibility: “They are still working”

More than a year after two brothers died in a crash on Peru's Pasamayito road, their mother says the company linked to the gas truck has not offered even condolences. “The company did not even give us its condolences. Since my sons died last year, we have had no response from them or the insurers. I am dead inside; I have lost both my sons,” Giovana told Latina Noticias.

Gerson Rafael Icho Robles, 21, was studying dentistry and worked delivering goods to pay his expenses. His brother Edson, 30, served as a second-class noncommissioned officer in Peru's National Police and was off duty when the accident happened. They were the two oldest children in their family and had been traveling together from Collique.

The truck was carrying more than 180 gas cylinders when it lost control while descending the road and struck the brothers' motorcycle. The family says the vehicle had experienced problems several kilometers before the crash. Local residents pointed to a possible mechanical failure involving the brakes on a road known for sharp curves and steep slopes.

Witness accounts said the truck moved at high speed, crossed into the opposite lane and hit the motorcycle head-on. Security-camera footage showed the brothers traveling behind a mototaxi at a moderate speed before the truck entered their lane. The collision also damaged the facade of a house and brought down part of its structure and a lighting pole. A teenage girl near the entrance was injured by falling metal.

Police officers and municipal security personnel responded, while relatives stayed at the scene during the recovery of the bodies. The family is demanding answers from Punto Distribuciones SAC and says the company has not contacted them or activated insurance for the victims' relatives.
