Family of late diplomat James Victor Gbeho officially notifies Prez Mahama of his passing

The family of Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, a distinguished Ghanaian statesman and diplomat, has formally informed President John Dramani Mahama of his death. The delegation conveyed the news during a courtesy call, stressing the cultural and diplomatic protocol of notifying the head of state before making any public announcement.

Ambassador Gbeho was a prominent figure in both Ghanaian and international political arenas. His extensive career included numerous diplomatic postings, notably in New York. He held significant national positions, serving as Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs and as a Member of Parliament for the Anlo constituency.

Internationally, Gbeho was widely recognized for his leadership as President (formerly Executive Secretary) of the ECOWAS Commission. He was highly respected for his instrumental role in advancing regional integration across West Africa and for his substantial contributions to global diplomacy, particularly through his work at the United Nations.

President Mahama expressed his deep condolences to the family. He shared personal reflections on Ambassador Gbeho's impactful contributions, acknowledging his legacy not only for Ghana but also for the broader West African region and the international community. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced at a later date.
