Family of Three Killed in Bangladesh Highway Accident

A tragic accident on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Sreepur upazila, Gazipur, has claimed the lives of three members of the same family. A speeding van struck the family as they were crossing the busy road.

The victims have been identified as Rakib Hasan, 42, his wife Bithi Akter, 27, and their young daughter. The family resided in Uttar Ranipur village in Pirojpur Sadar upazila. The incident occurred near Gilarchala around noon on July 11, 2026.

Bithi died on the spot, while Rakib and their daughter died of their injuries on the way to hospital.

According to Shahinur Alam, an HR officer at Denimac Ltd where the couple worked, Rakib was riding a motorcycle with his wife and daughter during their lunch break when the van hit them. Bithi Akter died instantly at the scene. Rakib Hasan and their daughter succumbed to their injuries while en route to the hospital.

Md Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of the Maona Highway Police Station, confirmed the fatalities. He stated that the driver of the covered van fled the scene immediately after the collision. Police are actively working to identify the vehicle and apprehend the driver. Legal proceedings are underway following the incident.
