Family Seeks Answers After Violent Death of Carlos Penzo in Queens Apartment

The family of Carlos Penzo is grappling with unanswered questions following his violent death. The 36-year-old Dominican man was discovered in the bathtub of his Long Island City apartment, bearing multiple stab wounds.

His sister, Christine Piantini, expressed the family's anguish and confusion to the Daily News. "Que esto le haya sucedido en la comodidad de su propia casa es increíble," she said, her voice thick with emotion. "Mi hermano no era una persona agresiva. Era un encanto." The family is struggling to understand how Penzo died in his own home and who might have been with him in the hours before his body was found.

Investigators arrived at the scene after a 9-1-1 call from Penzo's phone. Hours later, building security detained a man on the rooftop who was allegedly trying to disable security cameras with a fire extinguisher. This man was later apprehended on the fourth floor, reportedly attempting to enter Penzo's apartment. Police sources suggest this individual may be one of up to four people believed to have been in the apartment with Penzo. However, no charges have been filed against him yet.

"Sabemos muy poco," Piantini stated, emphasizing the family's lack of information. "Tenemos muchísimas preguntas." The scene inside the apartment reportedly indicated a struggle, with Penzo found in the bathtub, a knife and Taser on his lap, and significant wounds to his face and head.
