Family to bury UNIJOS graduate allegedly beaten to death by mob

The family of Ibrahim Mbaya, a 25-year-old graduate of the University of Jos, is preparing to bury him on Thursday after he was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Jos, Plateau State. His younger brother, James Mbaya, shared that arrangements are being made to transport the body to their hometown in Borno State for burial.

We are making arrangements for his corpse to be brought home. He will be buried on Thursday.

James described his brother's death as a devastating loss, particularly for their parents, who he believes will struggle to recover from the shock. Ibrahim, the firstborn and eldest son, had many unfulfilled dreams. He was a talented model, dancer, and entrepreneur with aspirations of owning a fashion house and restaurant, all cut short by the "brutal and inhumane" incident.

His (Ibrahim) death has really devastated us, especially our parents. I don’t think they are ever going to recover from the shock of his death because he was the first child and the first male child of the family. We had great expectations for him.

The family is urgently calling on the police to ensure that all individuals involved in Ibrahim's killing are brought to justice. "Everyone involved in his death should get the punishment they deserve," James stated, emphasizing that while justice won't bring his brother back, it is the best outcome the family can hope for after their tragic loss.

The incident reportedly occurred at an off-campus apartment behind the City of David area in Jos. According to reports, Mbaya, a model, had stayed overnight at a friend's apartment. The following morning, his friend accused him of stealing an iPhone, as they were the only ones in the apartment. Mbaya initially left but returned when called back to explain himself, only to be allegedly confronted by his friend and others. The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the incident and announced the arrest of three suspects: Rinji Daniel Fwanji, Emmanuel Newyear, and Nensemka Fwanji, in connection with the alleged culpable homicide.

The manner in which he died was very brutal and inhumane. Nobody should have gone through such inhumane treatment. I can never wish my enemy to be treated that way by those animals. Nobody should die such a brutal death. It is quite terrible and horrifying.
