FANLYC Kicks Off 'Relay for Life 2026' in Azuero to Support Children with Cancer

Under the slogan "Todos somos uno" (We are all one), the Foundation Friends of the Child with Leukemia and Cancer (FANLYC) has initiated a new edition of its "Relevo por la Vida" (Relay for Life) event in Azuero, Panama. Held at the grounds of the International Fair of Azuero, the event seeks to gather crucial funds for children and adolescents battling cancer.

Leslie Ducruet, FANLYC's Executive Director, expressed her happiness at engaging the Azuero community. "This entire community comes together to walk, run, cycle, dance zumba, and skate in a wonderful environment, where we have to raise funds to help all the children who are in treatment," she told TVN Noticias. The initiative encourages community participation through various physical activities, fostering a supportive atmosphere for the cause.

The resources generated from "Relevo por la Vida" are vital for supporting patients who receive care at the Hospital del Niño, Hospital Luis Chicho Fábrega, and the National Oncology Institute. These funds help cover essential expenses such as accommodation, transportation, and medications, alleviating the financial burden on families undergoing treatment. A particularly meaningful aspect of the event is when teams have the opportunity to meet the child they are sponsoring, strengthening the bond and providing encouragement throughout the patient's journey.

"Relevo por la Vida" will continue its tour with events scheduled for August 9 in Santiago de Veraguas, August 16 in Boquete, Chiriquí, and will conclude on September 5 and 6 at the Cinta Costera in Panama City. Currently, FANLYC provides support to over 600 children and adolescents with cancer at various stages of their treatment and follow-up care.
