Far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos detained by U.S. immigration officials

British far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for allegedly overstaying his visa, according to records released Friday.

Yiannopoulos, 41, was arrested on Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security stated that Yiannopoulos legally entered the U.S. in May 2019 but "chose to overstay his welcome in violation of our nation’s laws." He was issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge on July 22 after failing to appear for his immigration hearing and will remain in ICE custody pending deportation.

The detention comes as Yiannopoulos, who previously worked for Breitbart News and on the 2024 presidential campaign of Ye (formerly Kanye West), has been vocal in his support for strict immigration enforcement. He has previously advocated for ICE checkpoints at various public locations with immediate deportation for individuals unable to prove legal residency.

It remains unclear why Yiannopoulos was in Louisiana, though Ye was scheduled to perform in New Orleans on Friday night. Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and ally of former President Donald Trump, claimed responsibility for reporting Yiannopoulos to ICE, suggesting her actions led to his detention.

Yiannopoulos was not immediately available for comment, and it is unknown if he has secured legal representation. His current location is listed in ICE's online detainee database as Alexandria, Louisiana.
