Farage dominates Clacton by-election, Binface surges and 32 others trail

Right-wing leader Nigel Farage has comfortably won the Clacton by-election, securing a second term with 62.8% of the vote. Farage triggered the by-election himself last month after resigning from parliament amid an investigation into whether he should have declared gifts from wealthy backers.

The result, however, was not the overwhelming victory Farage might have hoped for, particularly as Britain's major parties opted out of the contest, which they dismissed as a self-serving stunt. Instead, the election became a peculiar two-way race, with a record 34 candidates on the ballot.

The most significant surprise was the performance of comedian Count Binface, who garnered an impressive 9,455 votes, representing 26.7% of the total. This marks Binface's strongest showing in a parliamentary election to date. Following Farage and Binface, there was a substantial drop in votes, with the next four candidates collectively receiving only 1,642 votes.
