Farmers Appreciate Agriculture Minister's Stance on Feed Prices, Boost Egg Absorption

Egg farmers in Kendal, Indonesia, are applauding the Ministry of Agriculture's rapid response to stabilize the poultry industry, particularly for laying hens. Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman's decisive actions have provided much-needed relief to farmers who have been struggling with low egg prices.

The government's intervention includes preventing an increase in feed and concentrate prices, enhancing the absorption of eggs through the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program, and expediting the distribution of SPHP (Supply Price Stabilization) corn. These measures are crucial as egg prices have recently fallen below the government's reference purchase price of Rp 26,500 per kilogram, putting significant financial pressure on farmers.

Following a coordination meeting involving various stakeholders, including the National Food Agency, National Police's Food Security Task Force, Bulog (State Logistics Agency), farmer cooperatives, feed industries, and business actors, the decisions were made. This collaborative approach is expected to foster price stability that benefits farmers while safeguarding national food supply.

Suwardi, Chairman of the Kendal Poultry Farmers Cooperative (KPUS), expressed his satisfaction, stating, "Starting today, it is agreed that there will be no increase in feed or concentrate prices. We also have certainty that the government will strengthen egg absorption and accelerate the distribution of SPHP corn. This is a breath of fresh air for farmers." He added that the government's swift action demonstrates a clear commitment to supporting smallholder farmers, earning Minister Amran the affectionate title "Father of Farmers."
