Fatal accident on A71 near Stadtilm: One dead, one critically injured

A serious traffic accident on the autobahn feeder road near Stadtilm, Germany, claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman and left another 68-year-old woman in critical condition. The collision involved two vehicles, with authorities pointing to a dangerous maneuver as the cause.

According to a police spokesperson, the driver of one car initiated a U-turn on the on- and off-ramp, violating traffic regulations. An oncoming vehicle, exiting the autobahn, struck the turning car on its side. The impact caused one of the vehicles to catch fire.

In total, six individuals sustained injuries. Among the injured were the 64-year-old driver of the car attempting the U-turn and a four-year-old girl who was a passenger in the other vehicle. Emergency services, including two rescue helicopters and multiple ambulances, transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Fire departments also responded to the scene.

To determine the precise sequence of events leading to the crash, an expert investigator is on site. The police have estimated the damage to the involved vehicles at approximately 65,000 euros, with an additional 10,000 euros in damage to the roadway.
