Fatal accident on PY05: Prosecutors may charge both drivers

A fatal accident on route PY05 in Cerro Corá, Amambay department, Paraguay, has prompted a criminal investigation into potential charges against both drivers involved. The collision occurred Tuesday night and claimed the life of Wagner Antonio Mateus Da Silva, 43, the conductor of a Nasa Golondrina bus.

The bus, driven by Rubén Brizuela Rodas, 29, was carrying 15 passengers, including Rodas and two passengers who sustained minor injuries. The other vehicle involved was a tractor-trailer driven by Pánfilo León Falcon Ocampo, 53, who emerged from the crash unharmed. The incident took place at kilometer 31.5 of route PY05 in the Itapopo colony.

Pedro Juan Caballero prosecutor Mirtha Martínez confirmed that a criminal case for culpable homicide has been opened. She stated that both drivers could face charges pending the results of the investigation. "Once we have the result, we will see who is responsible. Right now, it is the bus driver, but we are also analyzing the conduct of the other driver; we will wait for the results so as not to charge for the sake of charging," Martínez explained.

The investigation will rely on a comprehensive accidentology report from Criminalistics, as well as information from the transport company. The bus was reportedly equipped with cameras, and the content of their footage will be analyzed to clarify the circumstances of the crash and determine responsibilities.
