Fatal accidents rise at Terengganu motorcycle event

The RXZ Members 8.0 event in Terengganu experienced a sharp rise in fatal accidents this year, with five deaths recorded compared to two in the previous year. Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd. Khairi Khairudin reported a total of 29 road accidents during the event across the state, a significant increase from the 11 accidents recorded in 2025.

Of the five fatalities, four were men and one was a woman, aged between 20 and 48. The accidents involved different motorcycle types, including RXZ, Yamaha 125, Yamaha Y15, and Vario models. Two fatal incidents involving RXZ motorcycles occurred in Kuala Terengganu and Kemaman, while the other three involved different Yamaha models and a Vario, with two of these happening in Dungun.

In response to the increased accidents, law enforcement intensified its efforts. A total of 222 motorcycles were seized for various violations, such as using modified exhausts and non-compliant registration plates. Additionally, 1,850 traffic summonses were issued for a range of offenses. Six arrests were made, including four local Malay men, one local Malay woman, and a 22-year-old Singaporean man, who face charges under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, potentially leading to imprisonment and substantial fines.

Despite the rise in accidents, police stated that the overall event, which attracted approximately 160,000 visitors, was managed effectively in terms of public safety and order. Only one criminal case, a motorcycle theft, was recorded outside the circuit, and one commercial crime case involving a non-existent homestay offer resulted in a loss of RM1,200.
