Fatal traffic accident in Salto: 65-year-old man dies after crashing into a tree on an avenue

A fatal traffic accident occurred in Salto on Monday when a 65-year-old man lost his life after his Volkswagen Passat struck a tree. The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of Avenida Barbieri and Francisco Soca. Police were alerted via the 911 emergency system about the crash.

Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel confirmed the driver's death at approximately 7:48 p.m. Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy, which is scheduled for Tuesday, to ascertain the exact cause of death. Investigators preliminarily suspect the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the collision.

In a separate traffic incident reported on Tuesday, June 16, a vehicle veered across the central median on Avenida Italia and collided head-on with a tow truck. The tow truck was transporting a brand-new vehicle at the time. The driver of the car became trapped and required rescue by firefighters.

The driver of the tow truck reportedly escaped the accident unharmed. The collision caused traffic disruptions on Avenida Italia and Zum Felde. This incident is under investigation to determine the reasons for the car crossing into oncoming traffic.
