Fatal Truck Accident in Probolinggo Claims One Family

Tragedy struck the southern route of Probolinggo Regency, East Java, late Saturday night when a catastrophic accident involving a trailer truck claimed the lives of an entire family. The collision, which occurred around 11:30 PM near a railway crossing in Malasan Wetan Village, Tegal Siwalan District, has sent shockwaves through the community.

The Nissan trailer truck, en route from Lumajang to Probolinggo, allegedly suffered brake failure, causing it to lose control. It subsequently slammed into a line of vehicles waiting for the railway crossing gates to open. Initial reports indicate that five vehicles were involved in the multi-vehicle pile-up, but the impact was most devastating for a Toyota Vios sedan.

The Vios, carrying four occupants, was crushed from behind by the trailer truck. Tragically, all four family members inside the car were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have identified the victims as Sutrisno (60), the driver, T. Sri Budiyatni (60), Devica Friskiara (29), and a three-year-old child, Giovano Malik Ibrahim. They hailed from Dusun Pundensari, Desa Jeblog, Talun District, Blitar Regency.

In addition to the fatalities, one person sustained serious injuries. Muhammad Iswanto (33), the driver of a Daihatsu Granmax pickup truck, is currently receiving intensive care. The sheer force of the collision scattered debris across the road, leading to a prolonged evacuation process of over five hours and causing a complete halt to traffic on the southern Probolinggo route. As investigations continue to determine the exact cause, the Probolinggo Police are meticulously examining the scene.
