Father and son drown at Kampung Punggai campsite

A family outing at Aliyya Beachfront Campsite in Kampung Punggai ended with the deaths of a father and his eight-year-old son.

The victims were identified as Mohammad Nizam Zainal, 33, and Muhammad Zamri Mikhail. They drowned near the shoreline at the campsite in Pengerang, Kota Tinggi.

The Punggai Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 7.10 p.m. Six firefighters were sent to the location in a Fire Rescue Tender and a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

When the Operations Response Team arrived at the location, the two victims were found unconscious after members of the public had brought them ashore before the fire department arrived.

Members of the public had already brought both victims ashore when the rescue team arrived. Firefighters performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before the boy was taken to Bayu Damai Health Clinic in a family vehicle and his father was transported there in the fire station’s Hilux.

Medical officers confirmed both victims had died on arrival. The operation ended at 8.10 p.m.
