Father of Aylín Mujica's son suspects vaping may have contributed to his death

Osamu Menéndez, the father of Mauro, the 33-year-old son of actress Aylín Mujica, believes that vaping may have been a contributing factor to his son's death. Mauro passed away after being hospitalized with pneumonia while on vacation in Barbados.

Menéndez shared his grief in an interview, recounting how he initially rebuked his son for perceived irresponsibility. He and Mujica identified their son's body at a morgue after he was taken to the hospital. Mujica had explained on the program "La Mesa Caliente" that her son developed pneumonia during his trip. A friend alerted Mujica that Mauro had convulsed while playing soccer on the beach. During a video call as Mauro was being transported by ambulance, doctors detected a blood clot in his lung and heart, and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Mauro worked as a DJ and producer under the artistic name MAAHEZ. His father expressed his strong conviction that vaping, a practice involving inhaling and exhaling aerosol from a battery-powered device, was the cause of his son's pneumonia. "I know that one of the things that must have caused his pneumonia is that thing that young people are smoking now, the vape, that, don't smoke that, really don't smoke that! I know that's what killed him," Menéndez stated.

Despite his profound pain, Menéndez is determined to find the will to live for his other two children, Adri and Oliver, though he acknowledges the immense difficulty ahead. "I don't think I will be able to be the same person at any time, I don't think I can be fully happy again, but I will try and make my best effort by reintegrating into everything I have always done and being able to talk to my friends and have a normal life. This has been super strong," he admitted, visibly affected. Aylín Mujica and Osamu Menéndez traveled to Barbados to begin the process of repatriating their son's remains to Miami, where the actress resides. Mauro's wish was to be cremated, and his ashes will be transported.
