Father of five killed in Akure robbery attack, suspect arrested

Tragedy struck in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, Nigeria, when a 47-year-old refrigeration and air conditioning technician, Idris Abiodun Clement, was killed during an armed robbery. Clement, a father of five, was fatally shot after confronting one of the suspected robbers who had invaded his neighborhood in the early hours of the day.

According to his son, Abdulfatai Clement, the robbers had already targeted two other houses before entering their compound. His father attempted to protect the family, unaware of the full extent of the armed group. The robbers attacked him with axes and cutlasses before one of them discharged a firearm, striking him. He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead.

Family friend Hakeem remembered Clement as a hardworking and generous individual respected in the community for his support of legitimate businesses. His widow, Taibat Clement, has appealed to authorities to ensure justice for the perpetrators.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident and announced the arrest of one suspect in connection with the attack. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Jimoh Abayomi stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the robbery gang. The police assured the family and residents of a thorough investigation and prosecution of those found culpable.
