Fayose: No Regrets Supporting Tinubu, Oyebanji Despite PDP Membership

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has declared he has no regrets supporting President Bola Tinubu and the current governor, Biodun Oyebanji, even as he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose's remarks came as he commissioned the Ayodele Fayose Lodge, a facility named in his honor by the Oyebanji administration within the Government House Complex in Ado Ekiti. He described the recognition as a reflection of Oyebanji's maturity, inclusiveness, and respect for leaders, regardless of political affiliation. The former governor noted that Oyebanji has succeeded in restoring peace and unity to the state's political landscape.

Speaking to reporters, Fayose, accompanied by PDP's 2022 governorship candidate Chief Bisi Kolawole and other party leaders, lauded Oyebanji's leadership. He stated that the governor's accommodating approach has fostered an environment where former governors and political leaders collaborate for Ekiti's development, a stark contrast to past periods of tension and division.

The recognition reflected the governor’s maturity, inclusiveness, and respect for leaders, irrespective of political affiliation.

Fayose attributed Oyebanji's current widespread support from former governors and stakeholders to his humility and statesmanship. He thanked the governor for immortalizing him and urged him to continue implementing people-oriented programs, particularly "stomach infrastructure" for citizen welfare. Fayose also advocated for strengthened welfare packages for former governors.

In his new capacity as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Fayose promised to attract electricity projects to rural communities in Ekiti and across Nigeria. Governor Oyebanji, in turn, explained that naming the lodge after Fayose was in appreciation of his contributions to Ekiti's development, noting that Fayose himself had honored many Ekiti personalities without naming projects after himself while in office. Oyebanji also mentioned future honors for other distinguished Ekiti figures.

There was always a reward for good deeds, stressing that the overwhelming support currently enjoyed by Oyebanji from former governors and political stakeholders is a direct consequence of his humility and statesmanship.
