FC Barcelona signs one of the Champions League's top scorers: Anthony Gordon

FC Barcelona has secured the signing of Anthony Gordon, an English winger who was a prominent goal scorer in the Champions League, for a reported fee of 80 million euros. This marks the second consecutive year the Catalan club has recruited an English player for the upcoming season.

Gordon joins Barcelona after a successful 2025-2026 campaign with Newcastle, where he scored ten goals in the Champions League, making him the fifth-highest scorer in the tournament. He previously played against his new club three times during the Champions League season, scoring once against them in the league phase.

Described by Barcelona as "one of the most powerful, skillful, and hardworking wingers in Europe," Gordon is noted for his ability to participate in high pressing, a key tactical element for coach Hansi Flick. While primarily a winger, Barcelona also highlighted his versatility to play as a forward.

Before his move to Newcastle, Gordon developed in the youth divisions of Liverpool FC and Everton FC. He began his professional career with Everton, playing 78 matches before his transfer to Newcastle for approximately 45.6 million euros. Gordon, who will also be part of Thomas Tuchel's England squad, was particularly recognized for his goal-scoring prowess in Europe, including scoring four goals in the first half of Newcastle's 6-1 victory over Qarabag on February 18.
