FC Copenhagen advances to Conference League group stage

FC Copenhagen has secured a place in the Conference League group stage after defeating Finnish opponent Inter Turku with an aggregate score of 4-1.

The Danish club won the second leg at Parken stadium 1-0, following a goalless draw in the first leg played in Finland a week prior. This victory ensures FC Copenhagen will participate in the league phase of the Conference League, guaranteeing them at least six additional matches throughout the autumn.

Despite dominating possession and creating more chances, FC Copenhagen's performance in the first half was described as cramped and lacking vision, with a shortage of movement and creative ideas in their build-up play. The breakthrough came just before halftime from a set piece, when defender Marcos Lopez delivered a corner that defender Gabriel headed into the net off his shoulder.

In the second half, Mads Emil Madsen extended the lead shortly after the break. Inter Turku managed to pull one back in the 68th minute via a penalty converted by Jasse Tuominen after a handball by FC Copenhagen's Felix Beijmo. However, William Clem restored the two-goal cushion in the 79th minute, and an own goal by Prosper Ahiabu in added time sealed the 4-1 aggregate victory.

Goalkeeper Diant Ramaj, on loan from Borussia Dortmund, made his comeback for FC Copenhagen and had little to do apart from the penalty. Andreas Cornelius, returning from a minor injury, was a physical presence in the attack, creating space for teammates despite not scoring himself. The draw for the Conference League group stage is scheduled for Friday, with matches commencing on October 15.
