Sandra Toft returns to national handball team for tournament in Romania

Veteran Danish handball goalkeeper Sandra Toft is set to make her return to the national team for a series of test matches in Romania later in September. The experienced player, who has played 195 games for Denmark, was selected by national coach Helle Thomsen for the EHF Euro Cup, a mini-tournament serving as preparation for the European Championship.

Toft's last appearance for the national team was in December 2024. She announced in June 2025 that she was expecting a child and subsequently gave birth to a daughter in December. Since then, she has made a comeback at the club level with Györ, where she has been performing exceptionally well.

"I have watched all her games for Györ, and she has done excellently. She looks fit and has been playing well, which is why she is in contention for spots along with the other goalkeepers," said Helle Thomsen. "We know her top level when she is at her best, and she has truly shown a high level in the preparation phase." Toft joins 16 other players in the squad, which includes Anna Kristensen as the other goalkeeper.
