FC Nordsjaelland wants to reinforce defense before transfer deadline

FC Nordsjaelland has nearly assembled its squad for the season, but the Farum club still wants one more defensive player before the transfer window closes.

Football director Alexander Riget outlined the plan after Sunday’s 3-1 Superliga win over Brondby. He said the club has plenty of options in attack, making defense the priority unless unexpected changes force the club to act further forward.

We have many good options to use up front. So only if something happens will we do something in attack. Otherwise, it is in defense that we would like to strengthen.

The club also expects movement among fringe players who have spent much of the season on the bench or in the stands. Riget said several talented players are not receiving enough playing time, and FC Nordsjaelland loaned Levy Nene earlier in the week after he had played only 100 minutes this season.

The plan is that we will not sell any players. There are plans through summer 2027 for many of the players we have now. So it is only if something happens that we had not anticipated.

FC Nordsjaelland sold Caleb Yirenkyi earlier in the summer in what it described as a record sale. Riget said the club did not expect to sell another key player during the final three days of the window, although he acknowledged that a sufficiently large offer could make any player difficult to retain.

His stated plan is to keep the team together. Many current players have plans with the club through summer 2027, but departures remain possible if events take an unexpected turn. The transfer window closes Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.
